The Ringlet (Aphantopus hyperantus) is a species of butterfly found in Europe and parts of Asia. It belongs to the family Nymphalidae. This butterfly is characterized by its dark brown wings, often with a velvety appearance, and the distinctive eye-like spots (or “ocelli”) on the undersides of its wings. These spots give it its name, as they resemble rings.
Key Features:

- Color: Dark brown with lighter margins and rings or eye spots on the underside of the wings.
- Flight period: June to August, depending on location.
- Habitat: Prefers damp, grassy environments such as meadows, woodland clearings, hedgerows, and fields.
- Caterpillar food plants: Various grasses, including cock’s-foot, meadow grass, and tufted hair-grass.
